Things You'll Need
Instructions
Stop photographing and remove the card from your camera immediately; continuing to use the card will destroy data, making it impossible to recover. Switch on the write protection switch located on the left side of the card. This will prevent any alterations from being made to the data on the card and prevent deleted data from being overwritten.
Download retrieval software to your computer. Many programs exist for the retrieval of deleted photos; different programs may have varied levels of success in retrieving your data. Card Recovery and Photorescue 2 are examples of the type of program used to recover data.
Insert your XD card into your card-reading device and connect to the computer.
Launch your recovery software. Select your camera brand and model to calibrate the software and begin the recovery process. Any intact files that have not been overwritten may be able to be recovered by the software.
