Things You'll Need
Instructions
Choose and edit your photo in a computer program, such as Photoshop that allows you to view the photograph's properties such as size and resolution (in Phototoshop this will be under image and image size). Select a size for your photograph based on your need and on the size of your foam board. That, is, if your foam board is 5 by 8, you will need to resize your photo to be 5 by 8 as well. Once you know the size of the photograph, resize the photo in your software program.
Set the printing controls on your printer before printing: Select "photograph" (either black and white or color) to ensure the greatest print detail. Select the type of paper you are printing on, whether it be glossy or matte, and print your photograph.
You have the choice to either "bleed" the photo on its mount (cover it completely) or to mount it with a border. To bleed: Allow the print to dry before mounting it to the foam board. Cut the board down until it is the same size as the print. If you decide to use a border, measure a desirable margin between print edge and foam board by using a ruler and pencil to draw lines before cutting. Use a sharp utility knife or any type of craft or art knife.
Mount the photo using a commercial photo adhesive spray. Sprays are not expensive and can be found at most craft, photo supply and hardware stores. Follow the directions on the spray can, covering the back of the photograph and affix to the foam board. If you are doing it inside and fear that you may over-spray the board, lay down a protective newspaper or sheet.
If you do not wish to do it yourself, there are dozens of professional print companies that will print and mount a photograph to foam board for you, including Costco, FedEx, Staples and online companies, such as Online Poster Printing, or Mpix. Follow the same steps for preparing the photo for printing before submitting your photo to a company for mounting.
