How to Remove Paint From Lenses

Paint on a camera lens poses a special kind of problem. Because lenses are designed to help a camera record a picture, any spill on the lens will be recorded directly onto the film through the lens. Fortunately, since most lenses are made of glass or hard plastic, removing the paint from them is easy. However, special care must be taken so that the lenses aren't scratched in the process.

Things You'll Need

  • Canned air
  • Pure, isopropyl alcohol
  • Lens cleaner
  • Lens cleaning tissue

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the lenses when the paint is still wet if possible. Cleaning the spill immediately after it occurs is the simplest way to clean the lens.

    • 2

Remove any dust particles from the lens using canned air.

    • 3

Apply isopropyl alcohol to your cleaning tissue and then transfer it to the lens. Rub gently until dried paint loosens and peels away. Never pour cleaning solvents directly onto the lens. Doing so may cause them to run into the lens and harm the mechanics.

    • 4

Discard tissue after using. As paint comes off onto the tissue, you may wish to use more than one piece.
