How to Make Horseshoe Picture Frames

Make a rustic photo frame out of a lucky horseshoe. Use it to display horse-related photos or outdoor adventures. This frame is a great rainy-day craft for youth camps, pony clubs or anyone who loves horses. Make this frame using your own lucky horseshoe or buy a new one from a farm supply store.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a horseshoe to make your photo frame. If you have horses or know someone who does, you can recycle old shoes. You can also buy new horseshoes from a farm supply or online. Clean the shoe if dirty. Use a wire brush if the shoe is rusty.

    • 2

Paint the horseshoe if you wish. Use gold or silver paint to make a "lucky" horseshoe frame, or paint it black for a more natural appearance. Allow to dry.

    • 3

Measure the open space inside the shoe to determine what size photo it can frame. Shoes, like the horses they fit, come in different sizes. Lay the shoe on top of your selected photo. Use a pencil to outline the outside edges of the shoe on the photo. Use this pencil mark to cut down the photo. Make sure the photo is slightly larger than the opening of the shoe. Cut straight across the top.

    • 4

Hold the shoe with the toe pointing down and the open end at the top. Thread twine through the top nail holes in the shoe and form a loop. Tie at the top. Use this loop to hang the shoe.

    • 5

Glue the cut photo to the back of the shoe.
