Title Ideas
The title on your display board is the first thing that attendees will notice. Use bright colors and splash the title of your novel across the top of your board. You might cut out the letters of different-colored construction paper and glue them on. Make the look of the title reflect the content of your book. If it is a scary mystery novel, use black letters in ghost-like squiggles. If it is a happy and uplifting book, use the colors of the rainbow.
Depicting Content
It is important to include what happens in the book you have chosen. Draw a few of your favorite scenes from the novel and paste them on your board. Use colored pencils to add details. Place them in chronological order and write a caption under each to show people what is happening in the scene. You can also use three-dimensional objects to depict content. If your book involves animals, tape some toy animals to your board. If it involves outer space, get a toy rocket or planet and attach it to your display board.
Character Bios
You can help attendees understand your novel by making short biographies of characters. Choose a few of the main characters and draw a picture of each. You can draw it like a portrait or depict the character performing an action. Beneath each picture list the character's name, her likes and dislikes, her significance in the novel and anything else you think is important. Have space for attendees to vote for their favorite character based on the way you draw and describe them.
Depicting the Author
Sometimes understanding the author is as important as depicting the book. Download and print or draw a picture of the author of your work. If it is a famous author, write his name in large letters. If it is an unknown author, include biographical details that most people might not know. Some reading fairs allow objects on the table in front of the display board. If this is the case, make a clay model of your author hard at work writing the book.
