How to Back Up Books on the Pandigital Black

The Pandigital Black is an e-book reading device that includes a color screen, a SecureDigital memory card slot and the ability to connect to your Windows or Mac system. When downloading digital content, the Pandigital Black stores the e-books, magazines and other digital items in its internal memory. You can back up e-books and other content by connecting the device to your computer and transferring the files. You should back up your Pandigital Black regularly to avoid losing your digital files if anything ever goes wrong with your device.

Instructions

  1. Windows

    • 1

      Locate the universal serial bus cable that came with your Pandigital Black and plug the cable's smaller USB connector into the right side of the eBook device.

      Plug the larger USB connector into any available USB port on the front, side or back of your computer. Your Windows system will automatically recognize the device, load the needed device driver and open a Windows Explorer window called PD_Novel.

      Click "Start" and select Computer, followed by Documents. Click "New Folder" and enter a name such as "Pandigital Backup" in the highlighted box. Press "Return" or "Enter" to accept the name. Double-click the folder's icon to open it.

      Click back to the PD_Novel window and click the down arrow next to Organize. Click Select All to highlight all the folders in the window: eBooks, Photos, Music and Videos. Right-click anywhere in the window's right pane and select Copy.

      Switch back to your new backup folder. Right-click anywhere in the window's right pane and select Paste. The folders, along with the content in the folders, will copy from the Pandigital Black to your computer.

      Click the up arrow to the left of the clock in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Click the icon that is a picture of a USB cable, also known as the "Hardware Removal" icon. Double-click the PD_Novel entry to unmount the device.

      Disconnect the Pandigital Black's USB cable from your computer when the "Safe to Remove Hardware" message appears. Your Pandigital Black will restart and the its Home screen will appear within 20 seconds.

    Mac

    • 8

      Locate the universal serial bus cable that came with your Pandigital Black and plug the cable's smaller USB connector into the right side of the e-book device.

      Plug the larger USB connector into any available USB port on the front, side or back of your computer. Your Mac system will automatically recognize the device and an icon named "PD_Novel" will appear on your system's Desktop.

      Click File and select New Folder. Enter "Pandigital Backup" or a similar name in the highlighted box under the folder icon, then press "Return." Click the folder's icon to open it.

      Click the "PD_Novel" icon to open the device's window. Use your Mac's mouse to highlight all the folders in the PD_Novel folder: eBooks, Photos, Music and Videos. Press and hold the "Command" key and press the "C" key to copy the folders.

      Switch back to your new backup folder. Right-click or "Command"-click anywhere in the window's right pane. Press and hold the "Command" key and press the "V" key to paste the files into the folder. The folders, along with their content, will copy from the Pandigital Black to your computer.

      Close the PD_Novel folder, then click its icon. Press and hold the "Command" key and press the "E" key to eject the device from your Mac's Desktop. When the device's icon is no longer on the Desktop, disconnect the Pandigital Black's USB cable from your computer. Your Pandigital Black will restart and the its Home screen will appear within 20 seconds.
