Types of Folding Magnifying Glasses

Magnifying glasses help people see writing or objects otherwise too small to be easily seen. While some people may turn to reading glasses to help them see better, others may find they only need occasional help. In that case, a folding magnifying glass can be helpful. There are several different types available.

Square Magnifying Glasses with Handles
- A square magnifying glass helps when reading text. Some types come with a lens that can be placed atop text and magnifies only one or two lines. The attached handle makes it easier to move the magnifying glass down the page. The handle folds onto the glass for storage.
Square Sliding Magnifying Glasses
- Modern manufacturing techniques can create a square magnifying glass that provides the same magnification over the entire lens. This type of magnifier can be used for reading and other general tasks. Some square magnifying glasses fold back into a case for protection.
Round Magnifying Glasses with Pocket
- Being ready to view objects means having a magnifying glass handy. This is the primary use for the type that folds back into a pocket made of leather, metal or plastic. Folding the eyeglass back into the pocket means the risk of scratches is minimized. On the other hand, the size of the magnifying glass itself is quite small.
Magnifying Glasses with Different Magnification Lenses
- One type of folding magnifying glass includes a number of glasses that fan out from a metal frame. When not in use, the magnifying glasses tuck into the metal frame. When in use, only the desired magnification is folded out. As with the pocket type, the actual eyeglass is quite small.
Magnifying Glasses With Stands
- This type of magnifying glass has a metal or plastic stand that folds back under the magnifying glass. It is stable but the downside is that the magnifying area is limited to the area under the stand.
