Relax and tune into your creative self. A muse comes from inside you, so it should manifest naturally without force. Find a quiet place to write the muse to give you clarity of thought.
Write down a statement of intent. State that you would like to call upon your muse to inspire you. This forms the first part of the writing ritual. It could be in the style of a rhyming poem or prose, for instance. Allow time to do this; do not force the muse to come.
Write two or three of sentences to describe how you are calling upon your muse. For example, say that you are using the "beat of the drum and the cry of the wolf" for inspiration. In drama, muses are called upon by playing instruments or chanting. Translate this into words. The muse does not have to be realistic; use your poetic license and write down your ideas.
Create visual images of your muse. Explain what form it takes, such as a person, place, object, animal or sunshine. Use a series of adjectives and examples of its form. You could write, "my precious gem that sparkles in the darkness." This is the opportunity to focus your attention by honing in the inspiration of the muse.
Explain your feelings in relation to the muse. Now that you have visualized it, use its power to motivate you. First, say how you would like the muse to help you or what you need inspiration for, such as, "be the ink in my pen and help me express my feelings of love," or "help me find my inner strength."
Express your ideas and concepts in a muse by translating your series of thoughts into poetry or prose. You could write, "the sunrise lifts my spirits," or "I feel awakened by the cool rain." A muse is a meandering of thoughts and understanding of the world. It is personal and abstract, so don't put pressure on yourself for it to make sense. Write what comes naturally.
