How to Make a Mummy Costume for a One Year Old

Make your little one's Halloween special by creating his or her costume yourself. A mummy costume is simple to make and requires no sewing. Layer pieces of fabric trim on your baby's onesie, and glue them on with fabric glue for an instant mummy look. You will have peace of mind knowing that you didn't spend a fortune on a costume your child will only wear once, and you can save the costume as a memento of their first Halloween.

White or beige fabric trim
Onesie with hood (white or beige color)

Instructions

  Use one of your baby's onesie's as the base for your mummy costume. Measure a piece of trim across the front of the foot portion of the onesie, from side seam to side seam.Cut a piece of fabric trim to fit. Pin the piece in place on the area you just measured.

  Measure and cut a second piece that will fit just above the piece you just cut. Remember to measure from side seam to side seam. Pin the second piece in place just over the first piece. You should start to see a layered mummy look.

  Continue to measure, cut and pin trim pieces until the entire front leg portion of the onesie is covered with trim. The number of pieces you need depends on the length of the onesie leg. Remember to layer them one just above the other to create the wrapped look.

  Repeat Step 3 for the back of the foot and leg portion on the onesie. Pin the back pieces in place just as you did before.

  Measure, cut, layer and pin the fabric trim onto the torso, arms and hoodie portions of the onesie. Use fabric glue to adhere the trim onto the onesie. Let the glue dry completely before putting the mummy onesie on your little one.
