About the Sony Reader

The Sony Digital Reader is an e-book reader developed by Sony Corp. The Reader comes in three versions: the Daily Edition, Pocket Edition and Touch Edition, each with a different size. Each has 2 GB of on-board memory space, storing up to 1,200 e-books. The devices also support other forms of media.
  1. Features

    • The three Sony Digital Reader models share several features. Each gives you the option to bookmark and highlight passages in your e-books, and allows you to add notes with a stylus and to zoom-in on pages. They have a built-in dictionary and 10 translation dictionaries. They use E Ink Pearl technology, which provides a greater contrast for text compared to E Ink technology, with faster loading times. Readers also have full touch, anti-glare screens that allow you to adjust the brightness level.

    Media

    • Sony Digital Readers support multiple formats for e-books, images or unprotected audio and text files. E-books must have either the ePub or PDF formats for Adobe Digital Rights Management protected files, or Broad Band e-book extensions (LRS, LRF or LRX), or be in rich text format (RTF). For music media, Digital Readers support non-encrypted MP3 or AAC files. You may also save and view images with any of the JPEG, PNG, GIF or BMP file formats. However, the Pocket Edition does not support unprotected audio or text formats.

    Accessories

    • Accessories for Sony Digital Readers include cases and covers, which come in different sizes to fit each version of the Reader and slide over the Reader's aluminum case. Chargers replenish the Reader's battery supply using standard AC wall outlets in approximately two hours. Flash memory media, such as Sony's Memory Stick PRO Duo, expand on the available memory space in the Digital Reader, allowing you to carry more media files with you. Flash memory cards come in 2, 4, 8 and 16 GB sizes.

    Size

    • The Reader Daily Edition is 7.87-by-5.04-by-0.38 inches, weighs 9.6 oz. and has a 7-inch screen. The dimensions of the Reader Touch Edition are 6.61-by-4.68-by-0.38 inches. It weighs 7.58 oz. and has a 6-inch screen. The Reader Pocket Edition is the smallest of the three models, measuring 5.71-by-4.11-by-0.33 inches and weighing 5.47 oz. It has a 5-inch screen.
