How to Read Along with a CD Book

CD books are audio books with a reader recorded onto a CD. Many enjoy CD books because they can listen to them in the car, because they have vision problems or because they just want to take a break from reading. But reading along with a CD book can be a great way to increase your vocabulary and your familiarity with words you previously didn't know. Because you are able to hear and see words together, you may also increase your retention of the material.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your CD player and insert your CD book. There should either be a tray or a slot that it goes into.

    • 2

Open your book to the first page of either the prologue or the first chapter. (Your book might not have a prologue.)

    • 3

Press "Play" on your CD player. Wait for the introductions and information at the beginning of the CD to finish. Most CD books will start with introductions and information regarding the book before the book actually starts.

    • 4

Begin reading in your book when the CD finishes the opening segment. Generally, books on CD will announce "Prologue" or "Chapter One" when they begin, so you will have advance notice.

    • 5

Press "Stop" on the CD player when you are ready to quit reading. It is a good idea to quit reading at the end of a chapter or page so that it will be easy to find your place in the book next time. Bookmark your book where you stopped reading.
