How to Draw Scary Clown Masks

Drawing a scary clown face and transforming it into a mask is a creative and cost-effective way to embellish to a scary-clown Halloween costume or simply create a mask to wear on its own. Once you choose the type of clown face you want to have as your mask, all you need to do is re-create it, color it and then transform it into a mask that you can wear to easily disguise yourself.

  • Pictures of scary clowns
  • Tracing paper
  • Paper/card stock

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the type of scary clown face that you want to have as the face of your mask. You can use magazine pictures, clip art pictures or any other picture of a scary clown.

    • 2

Trace and transfer your scary clown image. Place a sheet of tracing paper over your chosen scary clown image and trace it with a pencil. Tape your heavier paper onto a window and place the tracing paper directly over it. Trace the image from the tracing paper onto the regular paper.

    • 3

Decorate your clown. Outline the major features of your scary clown face with a black permanent marker. Color in your clown face using markers or colored pencils. Use darker colors to create a scarier image, such as browns, deep reds, deep greens and blacks.

    • 4

Cut out your clown face, using scissors carefully.

    • 5

Glue the cutout face onto a paper plate and trim around the shape once again, leaving a little extra paper plate on the sides.

    • 6

Use your pencil to poke two holes on either side of the paper plate where you left extra room.

    • 7

Measure your head from one ear to the other and record your measurements. Cut your elastic cording according to the measurements you recorded.

    • 8

Slip one end of the elastic cord through the poked hole and secure it with a tightly tied knot. Do the same with the other side, only tie this knot loosely.

    • 9

Try on the mask to make sure it fits correctly. If it is too loose, cut some of the extra cording off and tie the knot tightly to secure it. If it is too tight, add additional cording by tying more on.
