How to Bind a Book With Packaging Tape

No matter how gently you handle your favorite book, if you read it enough times it will fall apart. Of course, most people don't handle their favorite book with care -- they throw it into a backpack or purse or leave it open and face down on a table, breaking the spine. Although packaging tape is not the recommended material for repairing a broken book binding, if it's all you have when your favorite book is reduced to a pile of pages, you can use it for a quick fix.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the book. Measure the length of the book from top to bottom. You will need a piece of packaging tape precisely that measurement.

    • 2

Measure and cut the packaging tape. Unroll a length of packaging tape. Make sure the already-cut end of the tape was cut straight across. If it was cut at an angle, cut it so it is straight. Measure and mark the amount of tape you need. Cut straight across with scissors.

Lay the book out on a flat surface. Carefully place the tape lengthwise along the front of the book near the spine and press firmly into place. Line up the broken binding and loose pages so they will be caught by the packaging tape and press the tape onto the spine of your book. Flip the book over and press the tape in place along the back of the book.
