How to Open a Paragraph

Getting started is often the hardest step when it comes to anything, especially writing. In order to be effective in writing, your paragraphs should communicate and convey your message clearly. If you have and adhere to a standard approach, then you will be successful.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a subject. An example of a subject is exercise.

    • 2

Write an original statement based on your selected subject. For example, you could write: "Exercise is a great way to stay healthy."

    • 3

Write three or more sentences in support of your original statement. These sentences can be used to affirm, contrast or provide details of your subject.

Supporting statement examples are: "Different exercises provide different health benefits. Aerobic exercise reduces heart-related issues such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Weight training helps to build strength and reduce fat."

    • 4

Write a conclusion sentence that summarizes the prior content and abridges to forthcoming content.

A conclusion sentence example is: "Health experts recommend a regular routine of aerobic exercise and weight training to receive the activities' associated benefits."

    • 5

Study the paragraph to ensure it states exactly what you want it to state. Consider its tone and what you want the reader to gain from the paragraph.
