How to Keep a List of Books I Have Read

Reading is a fundamental skill and gift. When you read a good book, you embrace the perspective of the characters and then carry that new perspective into the real world. If you want to boast about your bookish adventures or simply remember what you've experienced, you have to keep track of what you've read.

Regardless of the motivation that has you keeping records of your literary exploits, making a list of the books you've finished is as easy as opening a word document.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide whether you want to handwrite your list in a journal or scrapbook or use a computer program. Open the scrapbook, Word, Excel or your favorite writing program.

    • 2

Write out the title and the name of the author so the books are easy to keep track of.

    • 3

Add a mental trigger -- a phrase, passage or idea you liked from the book so you can remember what the book was about. Note whether you would read it again.

    • 4

Save the document under an easily recognizable title, such as "Books I Have Read" or "Books I Like."

    • 5

Join an online network that keeps track of the books you read, such as goodreads.com
