Whether you are a teacher with a classroom library, a bibliophile, or just someone who wants to keep track of your books there are a number of web-based tools to create lists and catalogs of your books. These cataloging resources will allow you to track books you have read and loaned out. Most of the cataloging tools also allow easy addition of books to your lists through Internet searches and some will even provide additional information about your books.

      Create an account with your choice of online cataloging tool, like Librarything.com or Shelfari.com on your computer.

      Search for books in the "Find a Book" search bar or under the book menu.

      Select the specific book you searched for from the search results.

      Edit or complete the following steps to tag, indicate whether the book is loaned out, whether you have read the book, and whether or not you own it. The process differs very slightly with each resource.

      Add the book to your catalog once you have completed editing or supplying information.
