Book Clubs in Albany, New York

Joining a book club can be a rewarding experience if you are an avid reader. If you like to read all types of books, from bestsellers to obscure little known gems, a general book club is probably the best fit for you. If you are mainly a fan of a particular genre or writer, seek out a book club that focus on those specific books only.   1. The Albany Fantasy/Sci-Fi Book Club

    • This book club is for any avid fantasy and science fiction reader. Their first meeting, organized through Meetup.com will be on September 22, 2010 at the Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany at 7 p.m. The group plans to meet twice a month to discuss favorite books and choose a new book to read as a group.     Albany Non-fiction Book Readers

    • If you are more interested in reading nonfiction books, this is the group for you. Each month the group votes on a different nonfiction book to read, and they sometimes focus on books that fall within a theme, such as history and economics. Albany Non-fiction Book Readers club is organized through Meetup.com.

    The Albany/Schenectady Book Club

    • This general book club is for book lovers in the Albany and Schenectady area. The group reads all type of books, including fiction or non-fiction on a wide range of topics. A $1 fee each meeting goes towards the groups Meetup.com subscription. As of September 2010, the group is meeting at Uncommon Grounds in Albany New York.

    The Great Books and Irish Stout Society of Albany

    • This group is for fans of famous authors such as Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck and William Faulkner. You must also be a fan of good beer. Their first meetup has yet to be scheduled as of September 2010.
