How do I Read Horatio Hornblower?

Horatio Hornblower is a fictional character by C.S. Forester, best known from the films and television series based on the original books. With actors such as Gregory Peck playing the role, Horatio is known as the man of the sea. What many people don't realize is that Horatio Hornblower was the star of more than a single book. Once they realize, the question how to read the books comes up, especially since the series wasn't written chronologically to Horatio's life. Fortunately, this problem can be solved quite easily.

      Read "Mr. Midshipman Hornblower." This book is chronologically first, starting in 1793.

      Read "Lieutenant Hornblower," the second book chronologically. This book is based from 1800 to 1803 in the life of Horatio Hornblower.

      Read "Hornblower and the Hotspur," set from 1803 to 1805 and the third book chronologically.
