Book Clubs in Dallas

Book clubs provide an opportunity for avid readers to discuss books with others who share their passion. Most book clubs meet once a month, usually at a local library or other public space. Dallas, Texas is a big city home to many book clubs specializing in everything from sci-fi and fantasy to historical fiction and political memoirs.   1. Dallas Sci-Fi Book Club

    • This relatively new Dallas book club is for serious lovers of sci-fi novels such as "Dune" by Frank Herbert, "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury and "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells. The club meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 at Black Forest Coffee located within Half Price Books on the corner of Northwest Highway and Route 75 (look for a red and white meet up sign). Books are chosen by popular vote at the end of each meeting. The selection is strictly sci-fi and does not include similar genres like sci-fi fantasy or science non-fiction. To attend the meeting, all members must finish at least 75 percent of the book.

    Dallas Atheist Book Club

    • This open-minded book club is intended for freethinkers looking to discuss a wide range of books related to atheism, science, history, psychology, philosophy and religion. Members include a variety of atheists, agnostics, secularists and skeptics, though the club is open to anyone with an open mind. The Dallas Atheist Book Club meets at Legacy Books on the northwest corner of Legacy Drive and Tollway in the Dallas neighborhood of Plano. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., and members must RSVP in advance so organizers can plan accordingly. Past books have included "The Age of American Unreason" by Susan Jacoby and "The True Believer" by Eric Hoffer.

    Dallas Book Addicts Club

    • This book club is for general book lovers looking for a place to meet friends and enjoy engaging discussion on a wide range of books. Fiction, non-fiction, paperback and hardcover books are all read at Dallas Book Addicts Club. Past books include diverse titles such as "Revolutionary Road" by Richard Yates, "Push" by Sapphire and "Wings of the Dove" by Henry James. Each meeting also features a book swap, so you can find new books and get rid of your old ones. This club meets on the second Tuesday of each month in the community room at Half Price Books (5803 Northwest Highway in Dallas). Members pay a minimal fee of $2 for each meeting.

    Great Books and Fresh Coffee

    • Founded in September 2009, this Dallas book club is comprised of 20- and 30-something bookworms who enjoy reading a wide range of books including fiction, non-fiction, classics and new books. Members determine books for the coming months, allowing you plenty of time to plan ahead and anticipate new selections. Each meeting takes place at a different locations in the Dallas area, which is usually a coffee shop or wine bar. Past book selections include "A Dirty Job" by Christopher Moore, "The Savage Detectives" by Robert Bolano, "East of Eden" by John Steinbeck and "When You Are Engulfed In Flames" by David Sedaris.
