Highlight the Author
Choose a display that highlights the author. Once a teen reader gets hooked on one particular author, they will often buy subsequent books just because they like the author̵7;s writing. Get a poster with a picture of the author to use as the main attention grabber. Get some interesting information about the author from either the author or the book publisher. Create different lists of facts, such as their birthday, where the author grew up, favorite or least favorite things and future projects.
Theme
Choose a theme and create a display out of that. Find several books that are on the same theme, such as vampires, romance, mystery, etc. The books do not have to be by the same author or even the same genre. Include fiction, nonfiction and even some coffee table style books that have lots of pictures. For a vampire theme you could hang black cloth behind the table for darkness or make it look like a vampire̵7;s cape. Maybe drizzle some fake blood on a white tablecloth, but make sure to allow it to dry before setting any books on it.
Teen Focus
Focus your book display on the teens themselves. This makes teens feel valued and important. Get them to write down their opinions of the book or books, without giving too much of the story away. Type, print and post these ideas on the display. Teens want to know what other teens are thinking. If one teen recommends a book, it is probable that another teen will buy or read it.
Scenes
Set up the display of a specific book using the setting of the book. If the book is set in 17th century England, set up the display to resemble that time period. Get a life size cardboard cutout of the main character and work the rest of the display around that. Use a tablecloth that is reminiscent of the time. Use other pieces of furniture that might be appropriate, such as a desk similar to one described in the book, a dining room table and chairs if that is a main focal point of the book or anything else that might enhance the book's display. Add smaller items, such as glasses or a vase of flowers if mentioned in the book.
