How to Add Books to an Account for Goodreads.com

Create a user account and then add any contacts from your Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail or MSN email accounts. Goodreads will do this automatically for you as part of the setup process (see Resources below).

See if your friends are members of goodreads. If they are, their account will automatically be added to yours and they will be listed as your friends. You may browse their "bookshelves" and see what books they have listed and then add them to your list by clicking the "add to my books" button. From there, you'll see a button that lets you select which "shelf" you'd like to add the book to: "to-read", "read" or "currently reading" are the default shelves that everyone has. You can also customize your shelves.

Click in the box that finds books by title or author and then add the title or author that you are searching for. Look on the list that comes up for the edition you have (or would like to read) and select it by clicking "add to my books."

Click on the "add more" button next to the number of books you have on your shelves that is listed at the top of the home screen in the top right corner. List the ISBN from Amazon.com or any other site that lists ISBN numbers, and you can find the exact edition that way. This is one of the fastest ways to add books to your account.

Upload your books, but there is a certain format you must have in order for the books to upload correctly. The "import books to my account" tab has a list of the supported import file formats and a sample file.
