Tools
For this project, you will need a sewing machine, a needle, matching thread, a seam ripper, sewing pins and measuring tape.
Measurements
Regardless of the type of project, you always need to know your measurements. Measure around your hips at its widest part. Write down the measurement.
Stitches
When you are sewing a skirt together, do not use the running stitch. Although it is simple and quick, the running stitch is not sturdy. Instead, use stronger stitches. For example, use a backstitch to sew pieces of a skirt together.
Instructions
Undo the hems on one side of the skirt using a seam ripper. Turn the garment inside out. Reattach the two rectangles at the sides with sewing pins. Readjust the hem as you see fit. If the skirt needs to shrink by 2 inches, then make a 2-inch hem. Stitch the hem using a backstitch.
