Things You'll Need
Instructions
Lay out two pieces of fabric flat on a table. Use a large bowl or plate to trace a circle onto the wrong side of each piece of fabric using a pen. Cut out the fabric circles with scissors.
Place the fabric circles together with the right sides facing one another. Use straight pins positioned around the edges of the circle to hold the fabrics together.
Sew a straight stitch all around the perimeter of the circle, approximately 1/4 inch in from the cut edge, with your sewing machine and coordinating thread. Leave one 2-inch length of the perimeter unsewn. Remove the pins and turn the circle right-side out through this hole.
Stitch around the entire perimeter of the circle, one-fourth of an inch in from the edge. This seam will help to close up the hole you left for turning. Repeat this process to sew another seam a half-inch in from the first one.
Cut a slit on the outside of the fabric circle with scissors, making the slit fit just between the two sewn lines.
Cut a length of 1/2-inch-wide ribbon that is three times longer than the circumference of the circle. Fasten a safety pin to one end of the ribbon and feed it into the slit you created in step five. Thread the ribbon throughout the casing you made between the two seams of the circle and bring it out through the slit again so that both ends of the ribbon meet outside the circle.
Tie a knot in the ends of the ribbon close to the cut ends. Pull on the ribbon like a drawstring to close the purse, then use the ribbon as a handle. To open the purse, pull open the fabric circle and lay it flat.
