Things You'll Need
Instructions
Choose a fabric. Thicker material will insulate your jar for longer. Good options include thermal fabric, flannel or cotton batting. A double layer of fabric offers additional insulation and allows you to use a thicker material topped with a thinner one if you prefer the patterns on cotton or knits.
Measure the circumference of the jar, the height and the width. Write down your measurements so that you have them handy if you decide to make another jar cover.
Cut the fabric to fit around the jar, using the measurements from Step 2. Leave a small amount of extra material in order to hem the raw edges to prevent fraying.
Hem the edges. Using a sewing machine or a needle and thread, sew a small hem around the outside of the fabric.
Decorate your insulated jar cover. Use rick-rack, buttons or ribbon to embellish your jar cover. If you are using a plain piece of fabric, add a pattern with embroidery floss, such as your name or initials.
Lay the fabric right side down on a table. Stand the jar in the center of the fabric. Fold the square of fabric up around the jar and tie with ribbon at the top of the jar.
