Things You'll Need
Instructions
Take the measurement for your mermaid tail. Measure the length of the tail starting from your waist to your ankle. Stand with your legs together and measure around the hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles.
Create a design for your mermaid tail using pattern paper; make sure to use the previous measurements. Cut out the pattern and lay it on the fabric. The recommended fabric is nylon. At least 2 to 3 yards is needed for your mermaid tail .
Pin the pattern in place on the fabric; the fabric should be folded in half to make two pieces of tail for each side. Trace the shape of the pattern. Use a scissor to cut out the left side of the tail. Remove the pins and turn the pattern over so that you can trace and cut the pattern for the other side of the tail.
Put the two left sides of the fabric together and pin them. Do the same with the two right sides. Sew all the pieces together, leaving a 1/2-inch seam. Pin and sew the top part of the mermaid tail, making sure to leave a space -- at the side or back -- to insert the zipper. Base or pin in the zipper and stitch in place. To base the zipper, open the seam where the zipper will go. Base or pin each side of the zipper onto each side of the open seam. Align the top part of the tail with the bottom part, then sew them together.
Turn the mermaid tail inside out and flat stitch the seam on the tail section. Fold the edge of the waist on the wrong side of the fabric, pin it, and then flat stitch it. Your fabric bottom mermaid tail is now read to wear.
