How to Make a Chiffon Watteau Train

If you have a closely fitted dress and you are looking for a dramatic accentuation to enhance your look with a formal touch, consider adding a chiffon watteau train. Watteau trains are single panel trains that attach to the top of a dress, usually at the shoulders. This train is not commonly worn, but it is versatile and it can be worn with dresses of many different styles. This train is also well suited for different types of occasions, ranging from formal dinners to wedding ceremonies. Lightweight chiffon will give your watteau train a sheer airy flow.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the top edge of the material against your shoulder blades and allow the chiffon to trail down to your feet.

    • 2

Add another 1 1/2 feet of material to the length. Cut the fabric at this length.

    • 3

Measure from shoulder blade to shoulder blade. Gather the chiffon to fit between the shoulder blades.

    • 4

Machine-stitch blanket seam binding on top of the gathered top edge of the chiffon.

    • 5

Sew a hook on each end of the seam binding and sew a hook 3/4 inch out from the center of the back of the dress on each side and fold the top edge of the chiffon under. Hand sew corresponding loops onto the top edge of the back side of the dress so that each hook is aligned with a loop.

    • 6

Hem the bottom and sides of the chiffon by folding the edges under 1/4 of an inch and then folding them under another 1/4 of an inch and machine stitching along the fold lines.
