Things You'll Need
Instructions
Put your wool sweater through a hot wash and dry cycle in your clothes washer and dryer to felt it slightly. In the felting process, the individual fibers of the sweater will fuse together. This will keep it from unraveling when you cut and sew it.
Lay the sweater out flat on your table or work station. Cut a triangle out of the sweater, letting the ribbed waistband of the sweater become one side of the triangle. For a newborn size, cut the triangle with sides of 12 inches. For an older infant, cut 16-inch triangle sides.
Position the triangle of wool on your table or work station so that the waistband is at the top and the front or right side of the sweater faces up. Fold the left top corner toward the center of the waistband and then fold the right top corner in so that the two corners meet at the tips. Fold up the bottom corner point so that it meets the first two points. Use safety pins or straight pins to hold the three points together.
Sew the seams of the diaper cover to assemble it. Look at the point where you pinned the three corners together. There should be two diagonal lines going down from this point where the edges of the wool meet. Pinch two edges together along one line and sew a straight seam down this line, positioning the seam 1/4 inch down from the cut edges and through both layers of fabric. Sew your seam 4 inches long. Repeat this step on the other diagonal line as well. Remove the pins.
Turn the diaper cover right side out to wear it.
