How to Machine Embroider Tulle

Tulle is a delicate netted fabric that requires care when combining with a sewing project. If you tried in the past to embroider tulle on its own, then you probably found that the fabric ripped and tore easily. With the use of a stabilizer, you can embroider tulle very quickly and easily using a sewing machine. The wash away stabilizer sheet works best for tulle projects.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a tulle fabric that has very small netting holes. This framework provides better support for your thread design. Pick a design that is light and uses a solid stitch fill. Fine details are hard to manage on a sewing machine with tulle.

    • 2

Mark the placement of your design on a heavy water-soluble stabilizer sheet. Spray the sheet with a temporary adhesive. Hold a piece of tulle over the sheet and smooth on top.

    • 3

Press down to hoop the layer of tulle with the stabilizer sheet. Place the tulle sheet underneath your sewing machine needle and embroider the design along the marking.

    • 4

Turn the sheet over once finished embroidering the design. Use scissors to trim off the stabilizer sheet around the embroidered design. The adhesive spray tends to wear off after a couple hours.

    • 5

Soak your design in water until the stabilizer sheet melts away from the tulle. Allow your tulle design to dry to reveal your embroidered design.
