How to Knit the Dot Stitch

Create a textured pattern to add a bit of flare to any knitting project by using the dot stitch technique. This technique combines a single stitch that is increased into numerous stitches to form a texture that is raised above the other stitches. If done correctly, a dot stitch will look like a bump or raised dot and will provide texture to your knitting project. You need basic knitting skills to apply this particular technique.

  Knit a series of standard rows. This standard set of rows works well as a border for your project.

  Knit one stitch, purl one stitch and knit three stitches to create the textured dot. Repeat the pattern across the row.

  To complete the row, purl one stitch and knit one stitch.

  Create an alternating pattern across the first row of dot stitches by knitting three stitches and purling one across the row.

  Separate rows of dot stitches by purling rows in between them.
