Interior Case
Visit your local fabric store and have a store representative cut four equilateral triangles from durable, washable cotton each with 4-foot-long sides. These measurements yield a dog bed that extends about 3 1/2 feet from a corner. Decreasing or increasing the measurement customizes the bed for smaller or larger dogs.
Place two fabric sections together so the sides and points match perfectly. If the fabric has print or a defined exterior, place the exterior sides facing each other. Use straight pins about 2 inches from the edge all around the material to keep the fabric pieces aligned.
Machine-sew lock-stitching near the straight pin border around the entire fabric leaving about 6 inches open. Lock-stitch ties the thread to the fabric each time the thread crosses the fabric, which means that if the thread breaks in one section, it will not unravel the remaining stitches. Lock-stitching with just a few millimeters between the thread and fabric cross sections further increases this sewing technique̵7;s strength.
Invert the triangle through the 6-inch opening. The seams should now be hidden inside.
Stuff the case with cotton batting. Old pillow stuffing is also sufficient and a money-saving option.
Hand-sew a baseball stitch or whipstitch to close the hole. Closing the hole neatly is not a priority because the inside case is not visible.
Exterior Cover
Sew the other two cotton triangle sides together with any distinguished exterior fabric panels on the inside. A 2-inch seam and lock-stitching also works well for the dog bed cover. Creating an outside case, which is similar to a duvet cover in bedding, allows you to wash the dog bed̵7;s exterior.
Invert the cover and sew a 4-foot zipper to the open end. Adding a zipper is faster and easier than adding buttons, and a dog cannot chew off a zipper as easily as it can chew off buttons.
Put the cotton-filler inside the case so the triangle points match up. Zip the cover closed and place the bed in the corner.
