Threading a Needle on an Elna Sewing Machine

Other than the old fashioned lick and stick, there are three options to threading a needle on an Elna sewing machine. Some Elna models have built-in needle threaders. This device has a small wire that pushes the thread through the eye of the needle. Elna offers a manual needle threader for thicker threads such as yarn. A standard sewing needle threader accommodates most threads and doubles as a machine needle threader.

Locate the built-in needle threader mounted to the left side of the needle bar. Raise the needle to its highest position. Lower the presser foot. Press the threader lever. Depending on the model, the threader will either swing around from the side or lower to meet the machine needle. Loop the thread around the V-guide. The V-guide is just to the left of the needle and mounted on the threader. Center the thread between the eye guides, mounted on the threader and positioned in front of the eye of the needle. Hold the thread in this position and release the threader lever. The needle threader will snap back to its original resting position. Find the small loop of thread protruding from the backside of the needle, and pull it through to complete the treading process.

Locate the triangle on the front of the manual needle threader. Hold the threader with the triangle pointing up. Lay the thread across the thread guide, located at the top of the device. Place the threader against the top of the machine needle. Slowly slide the threader down the shaft of the needle until the thread goes through the eye. Find the small loop of thread protruding from the backside of the needle. Use the hook, located on the left side of the threader, to pull the thread through and complete the threading process. The opposite end of the manual threader serves as a needle guide.

Hold the standard sewing needle threader with the wire end pointing forward. Reach around to the backside of the needle. Insert the wire end of the threader through the eye of the needle and allow it to rest there. Thread the thread, from either side, through the wire loop. Return to the backside of the needle and gently pull the threader and thread back through the eye to complete the threading process.
