How to Make a Medieval Costume for a Boy

Halloween, Renaissanice fairs and theme parties all provide reasons for adults and young people to get dressed up. Make an inexpensive, uncomplicated medieval costume for a boy without using off-the-rack clothing. Keep the majority of the costume pieces simple, but choose genuine leather and metal accessories to make the costume showy and fun to wear. The off-the-rack pieces are common and easy to find, and can be switched out indivually as needed.

  • Man's long-sleeved shirt
  • Long men's single-breasted coat
  • Sweat pants

Instructions

    • 1

Find a light-colored man's shirt in larger size so that the long sleeves look full on the boy's frame.

    • 2

Choose a long, dark-colored man's jacket in a single-breasted style. Turn the jacket inside out and carefully remove the sleeves from the body of the garment. Turn the jacket right-side out again.

    • 3

Choose a pair of men's sweat pants with an elastic waist and ankles. These should also be a dark color, preferably the same color as the jacket.

    • 4

Put on the sweat pants and the shirt, then pull the now sleevesless jacket on over the shirt and button it all the way up as a vest.

    • 5

Pull on tall, dark leather boots and stuff the sweat pant legs into the boots to make the pants look even fuller and to show off the boots.

    • 6

Accessorize, if desired, with a leather belt fastened loosely around the waist, and a toy sword worn through the belt at the side waist. String a cross charm onto a piece of wide ribbon and tie the ribbon around the neck so that the charm rests at the collar bone.
