How to Sew Fabric Napkin Rings

Set a lovely table with place mats, napkins and napkin rings in coordinating prints. Create many different looks with fabric napkin rings made from a variety of fabrics. Tie the colors of your table linens together by making the napkin rings from a print that combines the color of the napkin and the color of the placemat. Use several colors of pastel gingham to set a cheerful, casual table, or use three different prints from one coordinating line of fabrics to create a designer tablescape.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 7-by-4-inch rectangle of fabric and a 6 1/2-by-2-inch rectangle of iron-on interfacing for each napkin ring.

    • 2

Lay a fabric rectangle right side down on the ironing board. Center a rectangle of interfacing on top with the adhesive side up.

    • 3

Fold the long sides of the fabric over the interfacing so they meet in the middle of the strip. You are covering the interfacing with fabric. Iron the fabric to the interfacing following the directions that came with the interfacing. You will have made a fabric covered strip.

    • 4

Sew along each long side of the strip, 1/4 inch from the edge.

    • 5

Fold the strip in half widthwise, with the side where the long edges meet on the outside.

    • 6

Sew the short edges together, stitching 1/2 inch from the short edge. Turn the napkin ring right side out. Sew the other napkin rings in the same way.
