Things You'll Need
Instructions
Cut two rectangular pieces of fabric for the outside of the purse and two for the liner. Each of the four pieces should measure approximately 7 1/2 by 5 inches.
Lay one piece of your outer fabric, the one that you want showing on the outside of the coin purse, onto your work surface with the right side of the fabric facing up. The right side of the fabric is the side that will be showing on the finished outside of coin purse.
Lay the zipper right side up, the size the zipper head is located on, along one of the 7 1/2-inch edges of the piece of fabric.
Lay the other piece of liner fabric, right side down, on top of the zipper. Line up all three pieces so that the top edge of all three line up with each other. For the liner, the right side is the side of the fabric you want showing when you open the purse.
Pin the three pieces together to prevent shifting while you sew.
Sew the three pieces together along the top edge. Remove the pins as you sew and do not sew over them. Sewing over pins poses the risk of breaking your needle, damaging your sewing machine or causing personal injury to yourself. Once you̵7;re done sewing along that side, remove the piece from under the needle and trim the excess threads.
Turn the fabrics so that the right sides of both are facing out. Line up the wrong sides of the fabric so that the edges are all even.
Stitch the pieces together again along the edge of the zipper. This will seal the seams in and secure the pouch in place while creating a more finished look to the top edge of the pouch.
Lay the second piece of outer fabric flat on your workspace, right side facing up.
Line up the unsewn zipper edge with the edge of the fabric.
Place the second piece of liner fabric on top of the zipper, right side facing down, and line up all three edges. Pin to hold the three pieces together while you sew.
Sew the three pieces together just as you did with the first side. Sewing first along the edge with the right sides facing, then turning the project and sewing again to finish the edge.
Open up all the pieces and line up the two pieces of liner fabric, right sides facing each other. Line up the outer fabric in the same manner. Your zipper will be hidden in the middle of the pieces. Pin in place to avoid any movement or slipping while you are sewing.
Start at the zipper and sew all the way around the outer fabric. End the seam when you reach the other side of the zipper. Back stitch at the beginning and end of the seam to prevent any future unraveling.
Sew along the two 5-inch edges of the liner fabric. Do not sew across the bottom yet.
Turn the pouch so that the right side is facing out and the liner is on the inside.
Fold under 1/2 inch of the bottom edge of the liner fabric. This is the edge that has not yet been sewn. Fold the edge towards the wrong side of the fabric. Iron the fold to hold the fabric in place.
Sew across the folded edge to close up and finish the coin purse. Push the liner fabric down into the inside of the purse and it is ready to use.
