Sewing the Sleeves and Body
Place your fabric on your workspace. Lay your t-shirt on the fabric with the sleeves folded in toward the neck. Use the shirt as a pattern as you cut the fabric into a t-shirt shape. Leave an extra inch of material at the bottom of the shirt. Repeat this process to create a second t-shirt shape for the back of the shirt, but don't leave the extra fabric at the bottom as you did with the front.
Lay the fabric piece that you cut for the front of the hoodie down on your uncut fabric. Fold the fabric piece in half vertically, then cut down the middle to make two pieces, for the left and ride sides of the hoodie.
Lay the t-shirt on top of the right fabric piece, so that the right sleeve is lined up against the fabric piece. Use this as your pattern as you cut a shape for your hoodie sleeve out of the fabric. Repeat this process using the left fabric piece and the left sleeve as your pattern. Lay one sleeve down at a time and cut around each to create another left and right sleeve to use for the back of the hoodie.
Sew the two front pieces of the hoodie to the back pieces, sewing along the sides and creating seams at the shoulders, leaving the front of the hoodie open down the center.
Pin the front and back right sleeve pieces together at the top and sides. Remove the pins as you run the edges through your sewing machine. Pin the right sleeve to the right armhole and then remove the pins as you sew the two pieces together. Follow this same technique to pin and sew the left sleeve to the hoodie.
Open the zipper. Pin the left side of the zipper to the under the left edge of the hoodie opening. Sew the zipper to the hoodie, going from the bottom to the top and removing the pins as you sew. Repeat this process to pin and sew the right side of the zipper to the right side of the hoodie opening.
Sewing the Hood
Use a pre-made hood as your pattern. Place the right side of your unfinished hoodie on your fabric. Lay your pre-made hood down, facing right, so that it overlaps the neck of the hoodie. Cut the fabric around the hood. Leave extra material at the bottom for attachment to the hoodie. Follow the same procedure with both the hoodie and hood facing left.
Sew the two pieces together along the center, going from the neck up. Make a 1-inch fold along the edge of the hood and sew it to create a hem. Make a 1-inch fold at the bottom of the hood to create a seam.
Pin the hood to the main part of the hoodie. Sew the hood and shirt pieces together, starting on one side and moving across to the other. Remove the pins as you go along.
