DIY Lace Napkin

Afternoon tea with Grandmother should be an elegant event. Sew lace napkins with ruffled edges for a tea table as sweet and feminine as your granddaughter. Lace napkins also have their not-so-sweet side. They add an eerie touch to a Halloween table, where they create an airy effect reminiscent of spider webs. Use pre-ruffled lace trim to finish the edges of the napkins for the laciest effect possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 12-inch square of lace fabric.

    • 2

Set a sewing machine to sew a medium zigzag stitch with a long stitch length.

    • 3

Sew around all four edges of the square. Stitch so that the needle goes slightly off the edge of the fabric when it makes the right side of the stitch.

    • 4

Pin 1/2-inch-wide ruffled lace trim around all four sides of the square starting in the middle of one side. Place the line between the ruffle and the straight band along the edge of the square. The ruffle should be on the outside of the napkin. Fold under 1/2 inch on the end of the trim to give it a finished edge.

    • 5

Set the sewing machine to sew a straight stitch with a standard stitch length.

    • 6

Sew down the middle of the band of the ruffled trim to attach the trim to the napkin. Remove the pins as you sew.
