How to Make a T-Shirt From Felt for a Stuffed Animal

Dressing dolls in colorful clothing is one of the favorite ways to play for many toddlers. Small dresses, shoes and outfits for occupations such as doctors, teachers and dancers are removed and rearranged each time children play with dolls. Dress-up time is not restricted to just dolls, as any stuffed animal can have colorful clothing. Make a felt T-shirt for teddy bears to increase ways children can creatively play with their stuffed animals.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the bear's arms and chest to determine the size of the T-shirt to use for a model. Use a newborn or 1T T-shirt for small bears and larger sizes for bigger bears.

    • 2

Lay the child's size T-shirt on the fabric and follow the outline of the shirt to cut two pieces of felt. Cut 1/2 inch from the shirt to leave room for edges.

    • 3

With right sides facing, sew the sides of the shirt and sleeves, leaving the arm hole, neck hole and bottom open.

    • 4

Turn down the neck 1/4 inch and press with an iron. Turn it down another 1/4 inch and press then sew around the entire neck.

    • 5

Turn down the ends of each sleeve 1/4 inch and press, then turn again another 1/4 inch and sew.

    • 6

Hem the bottom of the shirt by turning up 1/4 inch and pressing, then turning another 1/4 inch and sewing flat.
