How to Make a Child's Ribbon Corsage

When dressing up children for special events, ribbon corsages add a special touch to your child's party tux or dress. The corsage is often pinned to the lapel, so the size of your ribbon corsage depends on your child's size. As you design the corsage, pick colors that suit the occasion and color of the attire. Mix and match different color ribbons, but pick a wide ribbon to allow the creation of full rose petals. When finished with the corsage, preserve it as a keepsake with photos from the special event.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your ribbon flat and roll one end to the other to form a tight bud like the center of a rose. With a thread and needle, stitch through all layers at the base of the rolled ribbon and secure with a knot.

    • 2

Hold the rosebud ribbon at one end with your pointer and index finger. Loop a second piece of ribbon around the base. Press the end of the second piece of ribbon and hold together. Fold the second piece of ribbon in a loop toward the rosebud to form a petal.

    • 3

Stitch through the rosebud and folded ribbon tying off a knot to secure the fold to the center. This is one of the rose petals. Continue looping the ribbon around the rosebud and folding to create more petals.

    • 4

Cut off the end of a long ribbon once you finish the required size and shape of the corsage rose. Fold the raw side of the ribbon under the rose and stitch in place to hide all of the folds at the bottom of the rose's center.

Attach a small safety pin to the bottom of the corsage.
