How to Replace a Bobbin on a Kenmore Sewing Machine

A sewing machine's bobbin slips into a metal bobbin case, which has a hole to accept the central shaft of the machine. This shaft allows the bobbin's thread to feed to the underside of your project as you sew. When the bobbin runs out of thread, or a different colored thread is necessary, you must replace the bobbin on your Kenmore sewing machine. You can purchase pre-threaded bobbins or you load your own with thread by using a sewing machine with a bobbin winding feature.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the needle as high as possible and lift up the front of the metal bobbin plate to remove it.

    • 2

Remove the old bobbin from the bobbin holder by pulling up on the small lever visible in the case. Lift the bobbin out of the case.

    • 3

Insert the new bobbin into the case, making sure it will turn to the right when the thread is pulled.

    • 4

Pull the end of the thread through the hole on the side of the bobbin case, then under the spring clip to the left of the hole. Feed the thread through the slot on the far right of the bobbin plate and replace the plate.

    • 5

Test the bobbin on a scrap piece of fabric and troubleshoot any problems that might occur.
