How to Sew a Girl's Headband

Headbands are fashionable accessories that a girl can learn to appreciate at any age. If your daughter has been struggling to find a comfortable headband that fits properly in the store, you can make a custom fitted headband at home for a fraction of the typical retail price. Select materials that match her favorite outfit or use her favorite colors. Add a cute flower and a bit of sparkle with shimmery rhinestones for a glamorous accent that is age appropriate for everyday wear.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the tape measure around her head starting above one ear and going across her forehead. Continue bringing the tape measure down and around the back of her head until you get back to the starting point above the ear. The placement of the tape measure should go around the head where the headband will be positioned and worn. Cut a piece of stretch elastic lace that is an equivalent length.

    • 2

Lay the stretch elastic lace right side up. Bring the ends of the stretch elastic lace together to fold the material in half.

    • 3

Sew the ends together 1/8 inch in from the edge of the material.

    • 4

Turn the stretch elastic lace right side out.

    • 5

Slide the silk flower off of the plastic stem and pull out any plastic pieces that are positioned between the petals.

    • 6

Load the hot glue gun with a glue stick and plug the glue gun into an electrical outlet. Wait five minutes for the glue to heat up.

    • 7

Squeeze the trigger of the hot glue gun and apply a ring of glue around the hole that is located at the center of each layer of petals. Position the layers of petals on top of each other and unfurl the petals

    • 8

Pull the trigger again to apply a dab of hot glue to the underside of the flower base. Push the bottom of the flower down on top of the seam line on the headband.

    • 9

Squeeze a small dot of hot glue onto the backing of a rhinestone and push the rhinestone down in the middle of the flower. Glue more rhinestones to the headband as desired.
