How to Make a Drawstring Sewing Bag

If you are growing frustrated with misplacing your sewing supplies on a regular basis, you can make your own drawstring bag to keep them together and put your mind at ease. Drawstring bags keep your supplies where they belong ̵2; you can stop wondering and worrying about items falling out of the bag if you keep the bag closed with a handy drawstring. The materials for the bag are not expensive, and if you sew often you may already have the necessary materials around your house.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 yard of fabric
  • Collection of sewing supplies
  • Ruler

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the underside of the fabric face up. Fold the fabric in half. Lay your collection of sewing supplies at the center of the fabric.

    • 2

Measure one inch out from the sides and bottom of the pile of sewing supplies. Draw around the sides and bottom of the pile of sewing supplies along these measurements in the shape of a "U." Cut out the "U" shape from both layers of fabric.

    • 3

Sew the "U"-shaped pieces together but do not sew across the top sides.

    • 4

Set the cord at the center of the open interior top edge of the bag. Spread the cord out around the entire top edge of the bag.

    • 5

Fold the fabric down over the cord and machine-stitch in place. Cut a hole in the center of the top edge on the rear panel of the bag.

    • 6

Pull the ends of the cord out through the hole and tie the ends of the cord into a knot. Pull your drawstring away from the bag to close the top of the bag.
