How to Make Little Clutch Purses

Clutch purses are small pocketbooks, styled very similarly to wallets that are usually carried -- clutched -- in hand. Designed to carry only the basics, like a cell phone, cash, and lipstick, these minimalist purses are easy to construct. In fact, they are so easy to create, you may find yourself wanting to make them in a rainbow of colors, to complement your every ensemble. Fortunately, since they require minimal supplies and time, doing so should be no problem. Use clutch purses to brighten up your every outfit -- you can even tuck them inside a large tote or hobo.

Instructions

    • 1

Press all fabric pieces. Pre-wash and shrink, if desired. Iron the padded interfacing to the wrong side of the clutch's exterior fabric.

    • 2

Pin the clutch's exterior and lining fabrics together with the right sides facing. Stitch around the edges of the rectangle with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, leaving a 4-inch gap unsewn. Trim the seam allowance close to the seam to eliminate interior bulk.

    • 3

Turn right side out, using care not to separate the interfacing from the clutch's exterior. Hand-stitch the open section closed.

    • 4

Fold the completed rectangle in half, creating a rectangle approximately 9 inches by 6 inches. The lining side should face out. Stitch the sides together with a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

    • 5

Turn the finished clutch bag right side out. If desired, add embellishments such as ribbon, rhinestones, applique or antique pins.
