DIY Red Felt Flower

Felt flowers are a versatile accoutrement that can be worn on hats, blazers or dresses. Use them on necklaces, headbands or earrings. Felt flowers can be made into any shape you want by modifying the petals -- make eye-popping red-colored lilies, daisies, petunias, peonies or whatever flower fits you best.

Instructions

    • 1

Sketch your flower on the paper. A typical felt flower will have five petals. Once you have drawn the kind of flower you want, cut out a single paper petal to use as a pattern.

    • 2

Use the paper petal as a "pattern". Create five outlines of the petal on the red felt. Cut them out.

    • 3

Pinch the base of each petal; the two edges should come together and then be secured with hot glue. The base is the point at which the petal will attach to the center. This step will give the petal a more 3-D look. Repeat for all petals.

    • 4

Cut out a small circle from the felt. This will form the "base" of your flower onto which all the petals will attach. It should be about 1/4 the size of the flower you are making. If you are making a flower that is 4 inches in diameter, the circle should be 1 inch. Hot glue all the petals to this piece of felt. Allow a few minutes to set.

    • 5

Cut out a second set of petals, a little smaller than the first, and glue on top of the first set of petals. If you prefer, you can omit this step.

    • 6

Hot glue the button to the center of your flower. Use a decorative button from an old sweater or jacket for the best look. Allow a few minutes to set. Attach your flower to your hat, blazer or headband with an alligator clip or safety pin.
