How to Make Pretty Flower Headbands for Babies

Whether you're looking for a new accessory to sell in your baby boutique or you want to make a comfortable hair adornment to match your infant's special-occasion dress, you can make a pretty flower headband yourself. Customize it with decorations as desired. For a headband that's designed for everyday wear, accentuate the flower with a rhinestone to add some sparkle. Adorn a special-occasion headband with beads or other embellishments.

Things You'll Need

  • Stretch elastic lace
  • Measuring tape
  • Fabric shears or scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread that matches the color of the lace
  • Silk flower
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Rhinestone
  • Beads or other decorations (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Measure around the baby's head, exactly where the headband will sit. Cut a piece of lace that's the same length as this measurement. Alternatively, cut 12-1/2 inches of lace if the baby is under three months old, 14 inches if the baby is between four and eighteen months old and 15-1/2 inches for an older child. Only use these measurements if you cannot obtain an exact measurement.

    • 2

Fold the piece of elastic in half lengthwise with the right sides facing inside.

    • 3

Sew together the ends of the piece of lace about 1/8 inch in from the edge of the fabric.

    • 4

Open up the piece of lace so that the right sides are now facing out.

    • 5

Push the flower off of its stem. Remove the plastic pieces that sit between the layers of petals.

    • 6

Glue around the hole in the middle of each petal. Overlap the petals on top of each other and fan them out as you stack them.

    • 7

Squeeze a dab of hot glue onto the bottom of the flower and press it down on the spot where you sewed the headband together. Apply a bit of hot glue on the back of a rhinestone and press it down in the center of the flower. The headband is now finished.
