How to Make Big Flower Headbands for Babies

Whether you are searching for the perfect accessory to match your baby daughter's dress for an upcoming photo shoot or you want to make a custom birthday gift, try making a big flower headband. These attractive accessories are durable and lightweight. When you know the correct measurements for making these headbands, they stay in place better than sunhats. If your baby detests wearing bows in her hair, this headband might be more comfortable for her to wear.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the circumference of the baby's head. If this isn't an option, measure 12.5 if the baby is younger than 3 months old, 14 inches if the baby is between 4 and 18 months old, and 15.5 inches if the baby is older.

    • 2

Cut the stretch elastic lace according to the measurement you determined in the previous step.

    • 3

Lay the lace with the underside of the fabric facing you. Fold the stretch elastic lace in half lengthwise.

    • 4

Hand-sew the lace together 1/8 inch in from the cut edge.Tie the end of the thread into a knot.

    • 5

Cut the thread close to the knot. Pull your headband right side out.

    • 6

Pull a large flower head free from the plastic stem. Remove the plastic pieces from the petals.

    • 7

Glue around the hole in the middle of each layer of petals and position the layers on top of each other.

    • 8

Position the large flower over the seam line on the headband. Set a button on top of the middle of the large flower and hand-sew the button.

    • 9

Knot the thread against the fabric and cut the thread by the knot.
