How to Make Flower Hair Bands for Babies

If you are looking for an inexpensive birthday gift to make for a baby girl, consider making a flower hairband. These accessories are comfortable enough for babies who dislike wearing hats that cover the whole head and they are durable enough to stay in place. The key to making an attractive flower hairband for a baby is hiding your seam line underneath the flower. This is the professional touch that the layman tends to miss.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure enough stretch elastic lace to go around the baby's head. If you do not have the exact measurement available, cut 12.5 inches of fabric if the baby is under three months old, 14 inches if the baby is between 4 and 18 months old and 15.5 inches for older babies.

    • 2

Cut the stretch elastic lace off your spool. Position the lace "wrong side" up.

    • 3

Fold the stretch elastic lace in half so the right sides of the lace are positioned against each other.

    • 4

Stitch the ends of the lace together by hand 1/8 inch in from the edge of the fabric.

    • 5

Knot the end of the thread and trim off any trailing thread. Turn your fabric right side out.

    • 6

Slide the flower off of the stem and pull the plastic pieces out of the petals. Discard the stem and plastic pieces.

    • 7

Make a thin ring of hot glue around the hole in the center of each layer of petals and lay the layers on top of each other.

    • 8

Wait one minute to give the glue time to dry. Place a button at the center of the flower and lay the flower over the stitching on the elastic lace headband. Sew the button in place by hand. Knot the thread close to the fabric and trim the thread close to the knot.
