Cord Elastic
Cord elastic is mainly used as a drawstring-type cord. This cord is generally sewn into open seams or those that allow the fabric around it to gather. Hence, this type of cord is best for pants, skirts or even shirts that require a drawstring to close and tie. This type of cord helps to keep the item in place and on the body as a functional clothing piece as opposed to a piece that is meant for photography or aesthetics.
Woven Cord
Woven cord is cord that is thinner and flatter than traditional braided cord. It is woven with a crochet-type pattern so that it lies flat on the clothing piece. This type of cord is purely decorative and is usually used to embroider or outline a piece of clothing. Woven cord adds aesthetic value to a piece of clothing by adding a creative element of design which can also outline waistlines on dresses or blouses.
Braided Cord
Braided or twisted cord is cord that hosts a variety of pieces that are wound together in a swirled or twisted pattern. This is the thickest type of sewing cord as it is two general-sized pieces of cord that are twisted into one piece, therefore doubling the size. Braided cord is used frequently in curtain-making as pieces that tie the curtain back from a window, or decorative pieces that line the top or bottom of the curtain.
Cord with Lip
Cord with lip is cord that is sewn to an elastic piece. This type of cord is generally used as a functional piece. Because of it's unusual look, this type of cord is often used on the inside of a piece of clothing as elastic which gives the clothing its shape. The cord is sewn to the elastic to give the elastic a more stable shape and hold property for the clothing item.
