How to Make a Cincher Belt

A cincher belt is a wide elastic belt that fits snugly and draws your clothing in so that it follows the contours of your waistline and shows off your figure. Unlike a stiff leather belt, an elastic cincher belt can bend horizontally and reveal the contour of your waist. This is not only more flattering, but it is also more comfortable because the edges of the belt do not dig into your hips and ribcage. The elastic moves with you and does not restrict your movements, even when the belt is tight.

Instructions

    • 1

      Measure the wearer's waist.

    • 2

Cut a piece of 3-inch elastic the length of the waist.

    • 3

Thread the elastic through one side of a 3-inch interlocking belt closure, going from the front to the back. Fold the elastic so that 1/2 inch of the elastic is on the back side of the belt.

    • 4

Put the zipper foot on the sewing machine, and set the machine for a straight stitch with a short stitch length.

    • 5

Sew as close as possible to the buckle.

    • 6

Sew the other side of the closure to the other side of the belt in the same way. Both folds should be on the same side of the elastic.
