How to Make Three-Tiered Bows

Make a three-tiered bow for a hair accessory. This is a tailored bow with a little pizzazz. A three-tiered bow looks great attached to one side of a skinny headband. Add a satin one to the back of a dress at the waist for a finishing touch that is a bit more interesting than a plain sash. Three-tiered bows make very elegant gift bows, especially when made from satin ribbon.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 14-inch-length of 1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon. Lay it right side down on a table and bring both ends to the center, overlapping them 2 inches.

    • 2

Cut a 12-inch length and a 10-inch-length and fold them in the same way.

    • 3

Turn all three loops of ribbon over and stack them from largest to smallest. Each ribbon loop on each side should be 1/2 inch smaller than the loop below it.

    • 4

Thread a needle and stitch through the center of the stack of bows a few times to hold the stack together.

    • 5

Cut a 2 1/2-inch length of the same ribbon and fold it in half lengthwise. Iron the fold.

    • 6

Wrap the folded ribbon around the center of the stack of ribbon loops. Fold under one end 1/2 inch and stitch the fold down end over the other end.
