Things You'll Need
Instructions
Rent a high-quality video camera or borrow one from a friend. The quality of your video is very important because you'll be showing the judges your clothing.
Ask a friend or professional to record your video. Someone with video experience is best because you'll want to move around a lot in the video and this won't turn out well if recorded by someone with shaky hands. Use a tripod and to record it yourself only if absolutely necessary.
Watch past audition tapes to get an idea of what the judges are looking for.
Dress nicely, preferably in something that you have made. You want to look like you understand fashion and personal style.
Incorporate music and other creative elements into your tape. Contestant Mondo Guerra began with clips from his runway shows and shots of him sewing and creating garments. Then he went on to introduce himself.
Speak very clearly and introduce yourself to the judges.
Show your personality. A dull personality may lead the judges to believe you create dull clothes.
Move around. Walk around the room and show the judges some of your work. Make sure your pieces are on body forms or real people so they judges can see them. They won't be as effective on hangers.
Tell the judges how long you have been designing and how you got into it.
Explain why you think you are qualified to be on the show. What makes you different? What will you bring to the show? Be sure to mention any awards that you have won.
Make your video stand out by editing it with a program like iMovie, Soundslides or Final Cut. With these programs you can incorporate transitions between different cuts and layer music for a professional-looking video.
